A city employment application is required for all open positions. Police Academy Trainee, Job No. 16-013

The City of Manhattan Beach is now accepting applications for the position of Police Academy Trainee in the Police Department. The Police Academy Trainee is a non-sworn training position. Under close supervision, the Police Academy Trainee will complete a formal, comprehensive California Peace Officer Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.) Certified Basic Academy training program; learn basic law enforcement legislation and principles, police procedures and techniques and do other related work as required. Upon satisfactory completion of the training and graduation from the Academy Trainee will be sworn in as a Police Officer with full police authority.

Education: Requires a High School Diploma or G.E.D. or California High School Proficiency Test. The completion of college level course work is desirable.

License: Ability to attain a valid California "C" drivers license and have an acceptable driving record that meets the City's policy standards.

Special Requirements: Must be at least 21 years of age at the time of appointment; be a citizen of the United States of America or a permanent resident alien who is eligible and has applied for citizenship. Prior to appointment, candidates must successfully complete a polygraph test, psychological and medical examinations, and an extensive background investigation process.

Additional criteria under MBPD policies and rules: No Felony or Domestic Violence convictions.

Applications received by below due dates will be scheduled for the corresponding written exam and physical abilities test- if you are unable to make the written date you will not be rescheduled and will need to wait for a new recruitment to open in order to apply again with the City. In addition, if you tested within the last six (6) months you will have to wait a period of six (6) months to re-apply and re-test.

Applications will be reviewed and a select group of candidates whose background and experience best meet our requirements will be invited to test. Final appointment is contingent upon satisfactory completion of an oral interview, a Pre-Background interview, an extensive background investigation, polygraph examination, psychological evaluation, Police Chief's interview and a pre-employment medical examination. Candidates must successfully pass each step of the recruitment and selection process to be placed on the eligible list.
