Recreation Leader II (Older Adults), Job No. 16-024

The City of Manhattan Beach is now accepting applications for a part-time Recreation Leader II (Older Adults) with the Parks & Recreation Department. The Recreation Leader II will assist in the Older Adults Program which is designed to promote health, wellness, and enjoyment among the citizens of Manhattan Beach and surrounding communities.

POSITION INFORMATION: In addition to the information provided above, tasks essential for this job may include, but are not limited to, the following; participate and assist with coordinating and evaluating older adults activities such as luncheons, bus excursions, movie outings, recreational classes, and other special events. The Recreation Leader II must display courteous and professional behavior toward the public and staff; observe all safety and City rules and regulations; and also perform other related work as required.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: High School diploma or GED

Training & Experience: Six (6) months of recreation program experience or experience in working with the public. The completion of 24 units of related college courses is preferred. Persons with a minimum of one (1) year of college with an emphasis in recreation are encouraged to apply. Experience leadership capacity with (paid or unpaid) within a recreation environment is highly desirable.

License: A valid Class "C" drivers license is required at the time of employment and acceptable driving record is required.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities: Requires knowledge of recreation programs and activities, facilities, equipment safety and use, and program planning; skill in operating specific department tools and equipment; effective communication skills; both oral and written; and the ability to plan, organize, and implement recreation events; work effectively with senior citizens and children; prepare written reports; conduct recreation program activities; provide staff leadership; drive to facilities to visually inspect playgrounds and equipment for potential problems; follow oral and written instructions; have the ability to lift and/or move up 50 pounds; and work effectively with others.
