Bid Guidelines, Opportunities and Results
The City solicits bids for goods and services with a value of $20,000 or greater, see the Bid Opportunities webpage for open solicitations. For purchases valued under $20,000, known suppliers of materials and services are contacted. For Public Works projects, see the Bid Opportunities webpage for open solicitations. You may also contact the Engineering Division at (310) 802-5353.
Vendors may self-register online to receive e-mail notifications for bids. The system is non-selective and if you register, you will receive automatic e-mail notifications for all bids. To register online, go to eNews to sign-up by entering your e-mail address and indicating whether you want to register for General bids and/or Public Works projects.
Bids are normally awarded to the lowest responsible bidder. While price is the primary factor considered when awarding bids, best value including quality, availability, and past performance may be taken into account. Bid results can be obtained by calling (310) 802-5567.
Business Promotion
The City has several contracts in place for goods and services, therefore, vendors should contact Purchasing first, to find out if the City has a requirement for the goods or services being offered. If Purchasing determines that there is a potential need, we may meet with the supplier to obtain product information or cost estimates. Depending on the requirements, Purchasing will determine if direct contact with the department is necessary. The majority of information required by Purchasing staff may be obtained from a supplier's letter of introduction or line card. We will contact you when additional information is required from a supplier. If you wish to schedule an appointment, please call (310) 802-5569. Our address is 3621 Bell Avenue and the nearest cross street is Rosecrans Avenue. Our hours are from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM.
City Staff Gifts
City employees may not accept gifts, gratuities or tickets to sporting events or entertainment. Suppliers are requested to cooperate in this regard by not making any such offers to employees.
City Staff Purchases
Departments may purchase goods and services up to $2,500. A staff member needs to provide you with either a purchase order or credit card number. Awards over $2,500 are handled by Purchasing through formal purchase orders.
