Now Accepting Senior Advisory Committee Applications (Deadline June 1, 2017)
Currently, three vacancies exist due to the expiration of terms, though current members may reapply for another term. The nine-member Senior Advisory Committee (SAC) works in conjunction with the Parks and Recreation Department’s Older Adults Program to make recommendations regarding the delivery of senior programs, activities and policies.

You may download an application (PDF) or pick one up at City Hall Parks and Recreation Department, 1400 Highland Avenue Manhattan Beach, CA 90266.

Drop off completed applications to the Parks and Recreation Department located in City Hall, 1400 Highland Avenue or e-mail them to the Senior Advisory Committee Liaison or send by fax to (310) 802-5401.

Members shall meet any one or more of the following criteria:

  • Are interested or knowledgeable in the aging field or senior citizen issues
  • Have prior experience in community projects or activities
  • Have prior experience in a community based organization

Additionally, applicants must meet the following qualifications:

  • Are 18 years of age or older. 2/3 of the SAC should be 55 or over.
  • Applicants should have the ability to take an active role in SAC meetings and projects and participate in senior center programs and activities
  • Not currently serving on a City commission
  • Live, work or are active in the City of Manhattan Beach or have professional expertise relating to senior issues

Volunteers Needed

The Manhattan Beach Older Adults Program is currently seeking volunteers to assist with activities at the Joslyn Community Center. Volunteers are needed to help staff the reception desk in the recently remodeled lobby of the Community Center and to assist with our popular nutrition program, The Lunch Bunch. If you are able to commit to a three hour shift weekly and would like to help your community by working in a pleasant, vibrant environment, please contact the Older Adults Program, at (310) 802-5430.

The film class at Mira Costa High School partnered with the City of Manhattan Beach Older Adults Program (OAP) to create a short film highlighting the programs and activities of the OAP. Take a look at the video on the City's YouTube Channel.

This video highlights the Dial-A-Ride program and it’s role in the community for our older adult and disabled population.

Sports League
The Men's Senior Slo-Pitch League is for men ages 60 years and older. The league runs from March through November in which various games and practices are conducted throughout the week:

  • Skill drills conducted on Mondays and Fridays 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM
  • Pick up games played Tuesdays 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM.
  • League games played Thursdays 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM.

The City of Manhattan Beach provides a variety of activities and services for older adults including Dial-A-Ride transportation, bus excursions, classes, activities and Senior Club events.  The Older Adults Program is continuing to expand the programs and activities available to the citizens of Manhattan Beach, as well as those in surrounding communities.
