Tennis is one of the most popular sports in America. In order to serve this enthusiastic and competitive group of sports enthusiasts, the City of Manhattan Beach provides some of the highest quality tennis facilities to be found anywhere in the region. Whether you're a beginner and want to learn the right way to play the game, a competitive player and want to find a good game – or somewhere in between – the City's tennis programs provide: teaching programs, tournament play and facilities of the highest caliber.

Tennis Teaching Professionals: Manhattan Beach Parks and Recreation Department has a very high caliber of tennis professionals who teach at our tennis facilities. Our tennis pros are some of the finest players in the nation. You will receive excellent tennis instruction and coaching from them. We know you will enjoy your experience with them.


MBO Tennis Tournament Racquet Exchange
Tennis RacquetsUsed tennis racquets will be collected and available to swap at the MBO Tennis Tournament check-in tables at Live Oak Park and Mira Costa High School during this year’s Manhattan Beach Open Tennis Tournament.

Please review the following guidelines for the exchange:

  • All tennis racquets must be in usable condition.
  • Tennis Racquets may be delivered to the following locations:
    • Live Oak Park Tennis Office during office hours
      Monday through Friday 7:00 AM to 10:00 PM (on the top half of the hour :45 - :15)
      Saturday and Sunday 7:00 AM to 8:00 PM
    • Mira Costa High School Tennis Office during office hours
      Monday through Thursday 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM
      Saturday and Sunday 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM
    • During the MBO Tennis Tournament at either location
      Friday, July 21st through Saturday July 22nd from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM
  • Those interested in finding a donated racquet may stop by the donation tables during the MBO Tennis Tournament
  • Please be respectful and take only what you can use and leave enough for everyone to enjoy.
  • Any remaining items will be donated to local charity organizations.
  • Rude or aggressive behavior will not be tolerated. Please remember that this is an event to promote community sustainability, and we all belong to the same community!

Annual Pass (Manhattan Beach residents only):

  • $14 per year
  • Good until the end of the calendar year from date of purchase; unlimited use as available
  • Available for Juniors (15 years and under); good for free play Monday through Friday, 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM
  • Available for Older Adults (65+ years); good for free play Monday through Friday, 7:00 AM to 9:00 AM and 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM

 


 

Tennis Classes and Lessons
Beginning, intermediate and advanced tennis classes are offered for youth, adults and older adults year round. Private and semiprivate instruction is available, as well as workouts and camps which are a great place to meet other tennis players, get an introduction to tennis or sharpen your skills. All classes are taught by highly skilled and qualified tennis professionals certified by the United States Professional Tennis Association (USPTA). Tennis Tournaments and Leagues
The following tennis leagues play on the Manhattan Beach public tennis courts:

  • Manhattan Open Tennis Tournament – July
  • Manhattan Beach Junior Satellite Tournament – Spring
  • South Bay Tennis League – December and January only
  • Youth Tennis League – December and January only
  • Marine League – Spring and Fall
  • Challenge Ladder – four times per year

Court Information
Within the city, there are three locations containing a total of 18 tennis courts. All the courts are lighted. They are tournament quality tennis courts with wind screens, high-tech composition surfaces surrounded by green rubber-coated fencing. The facilities are considered some of the best public courts in the area.

As a special consideration to Manhattan Beach youth and older adults, the City offers free play privileges to holders of annual passes which are available at the Live Oak Tennis Office.

Manhattan Heights Park

Mira Costa High School

  • Weekends, 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM
  • All other times reserved for school activities
  • To reserve during non-staffed times, call (310) 545-0888

$9 per hour (all times)

As a special consideration to Manhattan Beach youth and older adults, the City offers free play privileges to holders of annual passes which are available at the Live Oak Tennis Office.

As a special consideration to Mira Costa students, one court can be used for one hour for any Mira Costa student with an ID. If more time is requested the student would have to pay $9 per hour for each additional hour. If there are two (2) students wanting to use one court together, each one could use one hour of free time, which would allow them two (2) hours for free on that court. Each additional hour for that one court would cost $9 per hour.
