Manhattan Beach Moves Towards Sustainability

Keeping it Green!

The City of Manhattan Beach prides itself on being a pioneer and leader in green and sustainable living. Since 2008, the City has had a strong presence in the region’s environmental development, and has adopted programs and policies that set the example for neighboring communities to follow. To maintain the significant achievements in the environmental arena, and continue growing sustainably in the future, City Council adopted the 2012-13 Environmental Action Plan (PDF). The Environmental Action Plan covers several programs geared towards helping the City meets its greenhouse gas emission reduction and water conservation goals.

Further, each City Department has made effort to operate more sustainably. Whether that means simple things like recycling, double-sided printing, or remembering to turn off lights and computers when not in use, we are striving to set an example of what it means to be sustainable. You will find environmental information and tips throughout each of our Department web pages. To assist you in finding some of this information, please visit the webpages below. The City has also hosted several environmental festivals and outreach programs to educate the community on sustainability, a few of which are highlighted below.

We hope you will be able to find the answers to some of your environmental questions here. You can also take a virtual "green" tour of the city by visiting the Sustainable Living in Manhattan Beach website.

Please direct questions to the City's Public Works Department at (310) 802-5313.
