The City of Manhattan Beach prides itself on being a pioneer and leader in green and sustainable living. Since 2008, the City has had a strong presence in the region’s environmental development, and has adopted programs and policies that set the example for neighboring communities to follow. To maintain the significant achievements in the environmental arena, and continue growing sustainably in the future, City Council adopted the 2012-13 Environmental Action Plan (PDF). The Environmental Action Plan covers several programs geared towards helping the City meets its greenhouse gas emission reduction and water conservation goals.
Further, each City Department has made effort to operate more sustainably. Whether that means simple things like recycling, double-sided printing, or remembering to turn off lights and computers when not in use, we are striving to set an example of what it means to be sustainable.
