To help guide the development of its environmental initiatives, the City of Manhattan Beach hired Sona Kalapura Coffee as its Environmental Programs Manager.
Sona is now part of the City's Public Works Department. She led the City's Environmental Task Force, and continues to manage the City's environmental programs.
The focus of the first two Environmental Task Force committees was centered on four key areas: Climate Action, Sustainable Building, Water Conservation and Storm Water Management, and Waste Reduction. Sona worked with a dedicated group of community members and City Staff to develop comprehensive recommendations and policies in each of these areas, and is working to provide this information to the community. Her interests lie in climate change issues, energy efficiency, and helping the community on its path to sustainability.
Sona is the recipient of the 2014 Green Leadership Award from the County of Los Angeles Board of Supervisors.
