StART Projects Art Exhibition: There Is No Pretense Here
Exhibition Dates: May 19, 2017 through May 21, 2017
Opening Reception: Friday, May 19, 2017 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM

Field trip to LACMA (Los Angeles County Museum of Art)The exhibition, There Is No Pretense Here, is a cumulative show displaying art by students who participated in StART Projects. The program was designed for students to develop an art practice outside of academia in a studio environment.

For six months the students have been on a journey that demanded dedication, time and hard work. They have learned to develop conceptual ideas and transform them into objects or images. The students explored diverse subject that range from environmental issues to character design. Each artist has a unique interpretation and expression of what it means to make art. The exhibition and catalogue show the achievements and collective energy of the students.

StART Projects Cover LetterStART Projects is a collaborative program between Manhattan Beach Unified School District (MBUSD) and The City of Manhattan Beach Parks and Recreation Department’s Cultural Arts Division. The program is designed for students who want to focus on independent projects in a studio environment while working alongside professional artists.

With the guidance of the professional artists students will work toward the development of a studio practice in a community of like-minded peers.

Students must apply to the program. To apply, please submit 5 to 10 images of art work with descriptions to Nina Castro, Recreation Leader. Deadline to apply is October 14, 2016.
