beams from the World Trade CenterThe City Council directed staff and the Cultural Arts Commission to develop a memorial in remembrance of September 11, 2001 using two steel beams that the City's Fire Department received from the World Trade Center site. A Request For Proposals was sent to artists, design teams, landscape architects and architects nation-wide.

The Commission and the Public Art Advisory Committee reviewed 19 proposals received by the June 30 deadline. After several public meetings, the Cultural Arts Commission and the Public Art Advisory Committee narrowed the list of proposals to four. The finalists were ranked and these recommendations were 9/11 Memorial modelforwarded to City Council for consideration and selection. The artist/design teams were ranked as follows: #1 Untitled, Scott Yanofsky, Terra Firma Group; #2 Monument to September 11, 2001, Robert Kramer; #3 Risen Memories/Rising Hopes, Nancy Mooslin; #4 Untitled, Milena Frieden.

The 9/11 Memorial project designed by Scott Yanofsky, Terra Firma Group, will be installed this summer at the southwest corner of 15th and Valley.
