The Public Works Department is now accepting applications for the position of Water Field Supervisor. This position will manage staff responsible for operating and monitoring the City’s distribution, meter reading, customer service and backflow/cross connection functions to ensure customers receive adequate water volume, pressure, and purity.
 
The ideal candidate will possess a knowledge base and leadership ability to proficiently plan and manage staff operation of the City’s Distribution System in a safe, and cost efficient manner.  Additionally the candidate should be skilled in decision making processes that demand the use of specialized equipment such as backhoes, Bobcats, tapping machines, trenchers, cranes, ditch pumps, tampers, and jack hammers. 

About the Position:
This position is responsible for but not limited to: implementation and strict adherence of operations practices that assure compliance with the Safe Drinking Water Act; planning routine/programmed maintenance for the water Distribution System involving fire hydrants, pipelines, gate valves, service lines, meter installations, backflow/cross connection and relative appurtenances; assuring meter route efficiency and updating; timely scheduling and accurate meter reading, and resolution of reading discrepancies that supports the Finance Department’s billing schedule; providing exemplary customer service to businesses and residents that assures satisfactory resolution of billing, water quality/quantity, and safety issues.  In the absence of the Production Supervisor, the Water Field Supervisor will manage all Production Division activities in a manner that assures operations continuity.  This position may be required to respond to after-hours system emergencies, additionally this position may be required to work alternate shifts,  staggered work shifts, weekends, and/or holidays.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Water Certificates: Must be certified through the California Department of Public Health (DPH) as a Distribution II Operator and must be able to obtain Distribution III certification within one (1) year of hire date and must obtain a DPH Treatment I certification within one (1) year of hire date.  Distribution IV and a Treatment II certification highly desirable.

Education/Experience:
  • Completion of a High School diploma or G.E.D required.  (Associates degree with major course work in water science, environmental science, engineering, or business highly desired).
  • Four (4) years of responsible public works maintenance, water distribution experience or experience in more than one of the allied trades
  • Two (2) years in a lead capacity -OR- two (2) years experience as a Maintenance Worker II and/or Building Repair Craftsperson with the City of Manhattan Beach.
License:  Must possess a valid California Class “C” driver's license at the time of employment.
