Welcome to the City’s Going Green website highlighting the sustainability efforts your local government is involved in to make Manhattan Beach the most environmentally responsible city it can be.

Manhattan Beach has a long history of environmental sensitivity and activism, as a community and as a city government. In the coming months and years we will be taking these efforts to new levels as the City Council has made sustainability a priority goal. The City Council work plan consistently includes environmental and sustainability issues, and there will be plenty of opportunity for our local businesses and residents to be involved in taking action to protect our environment.

2018-2020 Environmental Work Plan:

To view a presentation and discussion of the city's current 2018-2020 environmental work plan, view Item 8 here. January 31, 2018 at 5 PM in Council Chambers, the City will be holding an environmental work plan study session that we welcome the public to attend!

The first step in developing an environmental plan for the City was the development of the Working Toward A Greater, Greener Manhattan Beach report. This report documents the City's environmentally friendly practices and identifies other best management practices that the City can consider adopting to enhance our environmental programs.

Two important actions taken as a result of this report were the hiring of an Environmental Programs Manager to coordinate our sustainability policies, and the creation of a community Environmental Task Force to analyze priority environmental issues and make recommendations to City Council. While the Task Force is not currently active, the recommendations of the two committees that served the City continue to reap benefits for the community. The motto of the Task Force serves as a vision for the sustainability movement in the City: To unite the community in a comprehensive effort to promote sustainable living in the City of Manhattan Beach.
