Established by resolution, the Parks & Recreation Commission is responsible for the recreational needs of all citizens, and shall promote supervised public recreation within the City. Consists of seven (7) members: five (5) at large members, one (1) representative from Manhattan Beach Unified School District, and one (1) student representative, who meet on the 4th Monday of every month at 6:00 PM.

  • Members serve 3 year terms. They may serve a maximum of two terms (6 years).
  • Seat 7, Mira High School Student, member serves a maximum of one year.

** Members appointed to fill a vacancy with less than 18 months remaining in the term are automatically reappointed to a three-year term without additional Council action.

*** If a vacant seat had 18 months or more remaining in its original term, the member would complete the original term and then be eligible for reappointment to one succeeding three-year term.

Garden CPR

Free Class at the Manhattan Beach Botanical Garden

Is your garden suffering from the drought? Learn the basics of water Conservation, Permeability, and Retention (CPR) with natives, which typically use 75% less water!  You will learn about these three easy steps that will save you money, enrich the soil without chemicals, and create more native habitats – leaving you with a fabulous garden!

This free class is located in the Amphitheater in the center of the Botanical Garden, on the west side of Polliwog Park. Free Parking next to the Botanical Garden on Peck Avenue, or the adjacent lot at the end of Peck Avenue off Manhattan Beach Boulevard.
