UPDATE June 8, 2020 
The health and safety of our community remains top priority. Due to COVID-19, all OLDER ADULT Programming, picnic pads, recreation and athletic facilities/basketball courts/fields and playgrounds are CLOSED. Green space in all parks, tennis/paddle ball/pickleball courts, dog runs and some batting cages have opened. Please visit the Parks and Facilities page for more information.   
We encourage you to check out Older Adults Program and Healthy at Home for tips on how to stay active and recreate from the comfort of your own home. There are activities and classes for all ages.

The City is closely monitoring updates about the coronavirus from a variety of sources. Information regarding the coronavirus is changing frequently. For accurate and up to date information about COVID-19, please visit DPH's website, the City's website, sign up for eNotifications and Nixle public safety alerts, and follow the City on Facebook, Twitter, Nextdoor, and Instagram.

Senior Advisory Committee Applications
The City of Manhattan Beach will accept applications on an ongoing basis from residents interested in serving on the Senior Advisory Committee (SAC). When vacancies occur, your application will be considered and you will be contacted.


Members shall meet any one or more of the following criteria:

  • Are interested or knowledgeable in the aging field or senior citizen issues
  • Have prior experience in community projects or activities
  • Have prior experience in a community based organization

Additionally, applicants must meet the following qualifications:

  • Are 18 years of age or older. 2/3 of the SAC should be 55 or over.
  • Applicants should have the ability to take an active role in SAC meetings and projects and participate in senior center programs and activities
  • Not currently serving on a City commission
  • Live, work or are active in the City of Manhattan Beach or have professional expertise relating to senior issues

You may download an application (PDF) or pick one up at City Hall Parks and Recreation Department, 1400 Highland Avenue Manhattan Beach, CA 90266.  Applications will be kept on file and considered as vacancies occur.

Drop off completed applications to the Parks and Recreation Department located in City Hall, 1400 Highland Avenue or e-mail them to the Senior Advisory Committee Liaison or send by fax to (310) 802-5401.

CANCELLED - Senior Advisory Committee (SAC) Meeting

The August 8, 2017  Senior Advisory Committee (SAC) Meeting is cancelled. The next meeting will be Tuesday, September 12, 2017 at 1:00 PM.

The nine-member committee works in conjunction with the Parks and Recreation Department’s Older Adults Program to make recommendations regarding the delivery of senior programs, activities and policies. Meetings are held on the second Tuesday of each month at 1:00 PM at the Joslyn Community Center. For more information, feel free to contact the Older Adults Program at (310) 802-5407.
