Teen Center School Year Program: Hockey

Follow us on facebook  instagram  Twitter

Today's Activity: Hockey
Today we will be playing street hockey on the basketball courts at the Teen Center. The Teen Center will provide all the equipment. Street hockey is very much like ice hockey but played on surfaces other than ice such as a basketball or tennis court.

How to Play Street Hockey

  • Make sure that each team has six players to start the game; usually consisting of three forwards, two defense men and one goalie. Consider having at least 12 people on your team, giving you a fresh line if your players get tired.
  • Start the game off by having a face off between the two opposing centers. The referee drops the ball between the two players commencing the start of the game.
  • Shoot the puck or ball into your opponents net to score a goal. At the end of three 15 minute periods, the team with the most goals wins the game.
  • Lose possession if you're the last to touch the puck before it goes out of bounds. The opposing team will inbound the puck by passing it to a teammate.
  • Stop play when the ball goes out of bounds or when a penalty occurs. Penalties include hitting the ball into the net with anything other than your hockey stick. Another penalty occurs if a player falls on the ball to stop play.
  • Remember that after a penalty call, a player may sit out for up to five minutes, forcing your team to be down a player. Some of these penalties are elbowing, kneeing, slashing, tripping and roughing. Teen Center School Year 2015 to 2016
