Healthy AT HOMEHealthy at Home for Older Adults
April 15, 2020 As Manhattan Beach residents observe the public health orders to stay at home during the coronavirus pandemic, the Parks and Recreation Department is pleased to announce the new “Healthy at Home” virtual recreation program in partnership with the Chamber of Commerce and business community. The new program is being launched to provide the community with additional options for staying active and healthy at home and includes instructional fitness and overall wellness videos, printables, and healthy tips.

During these uncertain times, it is natural to feel a sense of anxiety, loneliness, and uneasiness as your day to day routines have changed. It becomes more important than ever to maintain social relationships, exercise regularly, eat healthy, and develop routines. In collaboration with class instructors, staff, youth sport organizations, and local businesses, the “Healthy at Home” initiative serves to provide residents of all ages with virtual arts, craft and cooking projects, fitness and instructional classes, and various tips and tools to stay grounded, active and positive from the comfort of their homes. There is even a tab for classes and activities for older adults!

March 23, 2020 Utilizing various community partnerships, the City of Manhattan Beach has coordinated a resource delivery program that serves older adults that need assistance during the coronavirus pandemic. Older adults can now call the City’s Older Adult hotline at (310) 802-5010 and coordinate meals, transportation, medication, groceries, or other essential items from community and City employee volunteers. For customers who are 60+ under each store's new adjusted hours. Whole Foods also says its locations will close to shoppers "up to two hours early," though they will remain open for pickup and Amazon Prime delivery.

City Facility and Event Programming Changes
Manhattan Beach, CA (March 13, 2020) – In response to the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19), the City of Manhattan Beach has closed the Joslyn Community Center and cancelled all Older Adult Programming until the end of April 2020. This action is taken out of an abundance of caution, and to protect the health and safety of the public, and older adults in particular that are vulnerable to COVID-19. In addition, following Governor Gavin Newsom’s recommendations to slow the spread of COVID-19, the City has postponed or cancelled special events with large public gatherings until the end of April 2020.
