The City of Manhattan Beach is now accepting applications for the positions of Police Officer Lateral and Academy Graduate in the Police Department.
Police Officer (Lateral) is a journey level specification. Work normally consists of routine police duties performed according to department rules and regulations. Incumbents receive instructions and exercise discretion under general supervision. Positions at this level are flexibly staffed and are normally filled by advancement from Police Officer (Academy Graduate), or when filled from the outside, require current employment as peace officer as specified in California State Penal Code Section 830.01, or Section 830.2 (a)-(d). Appointment to Police Officer requires that the employee perform the full range of duties and meet the qualification standards for the specification.
Police Officer (Academy Graduate) is an apprentice level specification in which incumbents have graduated from a California Peace Officer Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.) Certified Basic Academy training program, but have not received a P.O.S.T. Basic Certificate with a comparable agency. Incumbents perform under direct supervision and generally do not perform police officer duties independently until the successful completion of field training.
Education: High School Diploma, G.E.D. or California H.S. Proficiency Exam. Graduation from an accredited California law enforcement academy. The completion of college level course work is desirable.
Police Lateral: Currently employed in good standing with a California law enforcement agency as specified in the State of California Penal Code, Section 830.1 or Section 830.2 (a)-(d).
Certificate: Possess a valid Basic P.O.S.T. certificate. (Must be submitted at time of application)
HOW TO APPLY:
Applications will be reviewed and a select group of candidates whose background and experience best meet our requirements will be invited to the selection process. Final appointment is contingent upon satisfactory of a Chief's interview, psychological evaluation, a polygraph examination, an extensive background investigation, and a pre-employment medical examination.
A city employment application, pre-employment questionnaire, criminal conviction form, and P.O.S.T. Basic Training Certificate will be accepted until the position is filled. Candidates will be reviewed and only those candidates determined to be most qualified on the basis of experience, training and education, as submitted, will be invited to participate further in the process. Physical Agility Test (Pass/Fail) and Oral Interview (100%)
Candidates must successfully pass each step of the recruitment and selection process to be placed on the eligibility list. Candidates will be placed on the eligibility list for a period of six (6) months.
