The City of Manhattan Beach is now accepting applications for the position of part-time Recreation Leader II with the Parks and Recreation Department.
POSITION INFORMATION: The Recreation Leader II will assist with the After-school Program, Teen Center or Older Adult Program. Duties for this position may include, but are not limited to plan, promote, and conduct a variety of recreation and cultural activities; prepare written reports; supervise the use of City facilities and equipment; and maintain department equipment and supplies. This position will also organize furniture arrangements and set-ups; provide leadership to assigned staff and volunteers; and conduct visual inspections. Additionally, the Recreation Leader II will display courteous and professional behavior toward the public and staff; observe and practice all safety, City rules and regulations; and perform other related work as required.
The Afters-chool Program is an enriched after school drop-off program for youth ages 6 through 12 with homework assistance and recreational programs at four (4) park sites throughout the City. The program hours are Monday through Friday from 1:30PM - 6:00PM with occasional weekend special events. Vacation and Summer program hours are Monday through Friday from 7:15AM - 6:00PM.
The Teen Center is a drop-in program for youth 11-18 years old The program hours are Monday through Thursday 3:00PM - 6:00PM and Friday 3:00PM - 7:00PM. Vacation and Summer hours are Monday through Friday from 10:00AM - 6:00PM.
The Older Adult Program includes set up for programs throughout the day, interaction with program participants, operation of misc. electronic equipment and occasional mini bus trips. The program hours are 7 days a week from 8:30AM - 5:00PM.
HOURS: Part-Time positions will not work over 960 hours per fiscal year and will be required to work shifts, weekends, and/ or holidays.
Education: High school diploma or GED.
Training and Experience: Six (6) months of recreation program experience or experience with the public. The completion of 24 units of related college courses is preferred.
License: Some positions in this class may require possession of a valid California driver’s license in order to carry out essential job functions.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Requires knowledge of recreation programs and activities, facilities, equipment safety and use, and program planning; skill in operating specific department tools and equipment; effective communication skills both oral and written; and the ability to plan, organize and implement recreation events; work effectively with children; prepare written reports; conduct recreation program activities; provide staff leadership; drive to facilities to visually inspect playgrounds and equipment for potential problems; follow oral and written instructions; have the ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds; and work effectively with others.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee may frequently drive to various facilities, operate tools and controls; may occasionally sit, stand, walk, run, climb; balance and kneel; frequently work outdoors; and may be exposed to variable weather conditions.
