Stormwater Pump Station Rehabilitation Project
The Manhattan Beach Marriot Golf Club Stormwater Pump Station is located within the golf course area at the rear of Westdrift Hotel on Parkview Avenue. This important City facility captures and pumps out stormwater to keep a large area of northeast Manhattan Beach dry. The pump station was originally constructed and put into operation in 1984 to discharge stormwater into the LA County storm drain system. It has four pumps in a well that is 30 feet deep and 9 feet in diameter, that pumps out stormwater at a rate of 1700 gallons per minutes. In fall of 2016, it was observed that the pump station piping experienced extensive deterioration including failure of the pipe walls. To address these issues, Engineering plans were prepared internally by City Staff and issued to qualified contractors for bid pricing. Clarke Contracting was selected based on their bid pricing of approximately $30k and their experience and expertise in providing storm- water pump station rehabilitation services. On July 11, 2018, Clarke Contracting Inc. satisfactorily completed the Marriot Golf Club Stormwater Pump Station Rehabilitation Project. The rehabilitation work will result in a fully functional system that will protect the north east area Manhattan Beach from significant flooding events.
