The Manhattan Beach Art Center is pleased to present Post-Medium, a group show featuring works by Walpa D’Mark, Rema Ghuloum, Ana Rodriguez and David Festa. Post-Medium presents a selection of works that create dialogues where paintings and sculptures generate symbiotic relationships. Walpa D’Mark works in a narrative realm that creatures emerge in tragic states to undergo existence. The use of color provides a psychological environment someplace only these creatures can survive. Working collaboratively with David Festa to develop a site-specific installation where a mound births a perverse world to establish a moment when fiction and reality meet. Rema Ghuloum works from time, memory, external and internal experiences. The paintings and the “painted constructions” undergo the process of painting – construction, sanding, priming, and painting. Ghuloum paintings probe to arrive at an essential state of painting itself; through process and excavation the work unfolds to depict the language of painting determining space, spatial arrangements, color and movement that at times can be found at the macro level within the “painted constructions.” Ana Rodriguez's works indulge in color, scent and tactile manifestation of rhythms and toxic desserts, where the paintings and sculpture find access to seep with one another.
