Roof nail, rough plumbing, and rough electrical inspections must be inspected on separate inspection days, before the framing inspection request. If you would like more information regarding inspection procedures, please refer to our Building Inspection Procedures (PDF).
Inspections which are not ready or do not have the approved plans and inspection job card may be subject to a re-inspection fee.
Building inspections are performed Monday through Thursday and alternate Fridays, 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM, unless any of these days is an alternate Friday or holiday.
Building Inspectors are generally available for phone calls Monday through Thursday from 7:30 AM to 8:30 AM and 4:30 PM to 5:30 PM, and alternate open Fridays 8:00 AM to 8:30 AM and 3:30 PM to 4:30 PM. Building Inspectors can be reached at (310) 802-5533.
How to Request an Inspection:
You can request an inspection no later than 3:00 PM on the business day before you want the inspection to take place. The inspector will be scheduled to be at the job site the following business day. Any inspections requested after 3:00 PM on a business day, on weekends, or holidays will be pushed out an additional business day.
Inspections for permits which were applied for on or after January 21, 2020 must be requested online through the Citizen Self Service. Inspection requests can be made anytime, but will be subject to the cutoff times stated above.
Inspections for permits which were applied for prior to January 21, 2020 must be requested on the inspection request line. The inspection request line is (310) 802-5542. This line is for inspection request voicemail messages only. When the recording begins, press * (asterisk) and be prepared to provide the following information:
- Project address
- Building permit number - or primary permit number associated to the project
- Three-digit code(s) associated to the inspection type(s)
- Whether you prefer an AM or PM inspection window - This is just a request, this does not guarantee the inspector will be there during this time period
