Recycling (blue cart) is taken to a Waste Management Recycle America "MRF" or "Material Recovery Facility" to be sorted by material type, then baled and sold as markets are feasible.
Residential Organic (food/yard waste)
Residential Organic waste - food and yard waste (green cart), beginning July 1, 2020, can be MIXED, UNBAGGED, and is transported to a composting facility.
Commercial (only) Food Commercial Business food waste is directly transported to Waste Management's CORe Facility in Orange, CA, where it is converted to an Engineered BioSlurry, transported to LA County's Wastewater Treatment Plant in Carson, CA for anaerobic digestion and converted to energy.
Commercial (only) Green waste (landscaping)
Commercial landscaping material is transported to the Transfer Station for raking to remove small amounts of debris. Contaminated green waste must be landfilled; green waste free of debris is transported to organic farms for agricultural cover.
