The health and safety of our community remains top priority. Due to COVID-19, picnic pads, recreation and athletic facilities/basketball courts/fields and playgrounds are CLOSED. Furthermore, to prevent the spread of Coronavirus, all gatherings are prohibited until further notice.
The City is closely monitoring updates about the coronavirus from a variety of sources. Information regarding the coronavirus is changing frequently. For accurate and up to date information about COVID-19, please visit DPH's website, the City's website, sign up for eNotifications and Nixle public safety alerts, and follow the City on Facebook, Twitter, Nextdoor, and Instagram.
Volunteerism is a vital resource in Manhattan Beach. Volunteers allow the City to augment its workforce by enhancing the provision of services to the community. Residents who volunteer with the City not only help provide a richer quality of life for their community but they learn the intricacies of how a municipal government operates.
Each volunteer contributes unique skills to his or her assignment. This experience may also contribute to individual development and personal fulfillment and enhance job skills.
The City prides itself on recruiting the highest caliber volunteers and uses a formal screening process that includes completing an application form, fingerprinting, and a security check. This ensures the safety of our residents and helps maintain the integrity of our programs. Potential volunteers may be interviewed for the position for which they are applying. Please contact Michelle Ami-Cortez, Volunteer Coordinator at (310) 802-5462 or visit the Parks and Recreation Employment Opportunities webpage for opportunity listings.
The Parks and Recreation Department sponsors community volunteer clean-up days for different facilities throughout the year when needed. They are usually held about four times a year.
Volunteers are recruited for these events to help refurbish and restore various sections of parks and other facilities. Volunteer duties include painting, cleaning, landscaping, gardening and other such activities. Participants are encouraged to put on their work clothes and bring shovels, rakes and gloves, although it is not required since some equipment is supplied by the City.
The community clean-up days are organized not only to help maintain and refurbish local parks, but to provide a way for community members to become involved in the City and gain a more personal sense of ownership in their local parks. Previous clean-up days held at the parks have attracted hundreds of generous residents, community service organizations and staff who enthusiastically help clean up and refurbish the facilities.
